My Favorite iOS Apps

I was trying to convince someone at work that we needed to do some iOS Apps. During the conversation I said something I always say about native iOS Apps. They provide the best chance at a great user experience. He asked to give him some examples of great iOS Applications, so I thought I’d share them here.

  1. Twitterrific
  2. Instapaper
  3. Instagram
  4. Camera+
  5. Evernote

I use the applications above more than any others on my phone, but I have a few from some other companies that I really appreciate. Enjoy.

  1. Tapbots
  2. Appcubby

Three Years Ago

Even as we celebrate tonight, we know the challenges that tomorrow will bring are the greatest of our lifetime. … The road ahead will be long; our climb will be steep; we may not get there in one year or even in one term. But, America, I have never been more hopeful than I am tonight that we will get there. I promise you, we as a people will get there. … but there’s so much more to do.

President Barack Obama, November 4, 2009

Movie line of the week

And.... ACTION!Good morning, ready for a movie line? I thought you were. Here it is, good luck!

This is Christmas. The season of perpetual hope. And I don’t care if I have to get out on your runway and hitchhike. If it costs me everything I own, if I have to sell my soul to the devil himself, I am going to get home to my son.

Ok, quick, what movie! Send your guesses here.

Fragile, must be Italian?

Nick Bradbury: “I wrote the first version of HomeSite back in 1994, and seventeen years later I can still run it on the latest version of Windows.

I created FeedDemon 1.0 in 2003, and it was the first app I wrote that relied on web APIs. Now those APIs no longer exist, and almost every version of FeedDemon since then has required massive changes due to the shifting sands of the web APIs I’ve relied on.”

The Packers

Businessweek: “The Green Bay Packers are a historical, cultural, and geographical anomaly, a publicly traded corporation in a league that doesn’t allow them, an immensely profitable company whose shareholders are forbidden by the corporate bylaws to receive a penny of that profit, a franchise that has flourished despite being in the smallest market in the NFL—with a population of 102,000, it would be small for a Triple A baseball franchise.”

I’m from a little town in the San Joaquin Valley of California called Exeter. It’s a tiny farm town. Next to our tiny farm town was the City of Visalia, a city of over 100,000, similar in size to Green Bay. I’ve talked about how unusual Green Bay is to my wife and I’m pretty sure she thinks I’m crazy, but I’d get excited about the thought of having an NFL football team in Visalia. That’s exactly what Green Bay has!

Back when the Raiders were in L.A. a lot of folks joked about having the Visalia, or Fresno, Raiders. Could you imagine? I can’t.

I’ve never been to an NFL football game, never. I love football. I’m a bit jealous of the folks in Green Bay, but I’m also very happy for them. They have a great thing.

Nest

Wired: “Fadell explained his concept: Untold tons of carbon were being pumped into the air, with people losing billions of dollars in energy costs, all because there was no easy, automatic way to control the temperature. But what if you could apply all the skills and brilliance of Silicon Valley to produce a thermostat that was smart, thrifty and so delightful that saving energy was as much fun as shuffling an iTunes playlist?”

Nifty idea. I hope they succeed.

Don’t Panic!

CodaPanic: “Coda 2 has now been in development for about a year and a half. All of us have been working incredibly hard on this forthcoming release. We’re finishing up new features, boosting up the editor, dramatically cleaning up the UI, and improving what Coda already does well today, all while, hopefully, keeping things extremely light and lean. By the time you see it, Coda might look a little different than you’re used to, but we think it’s for good reason. We’ll see how it shakes out, but we’re very excited.”

I’m sure the Coda update will be a work of art, Panic doesn’t know how to create bad software.
