Movie line of the week

Hot buttered popcorn and a movie, ahhh!Good morning movie liners!

I saw this movie line in a tweet this week and had to use it. It’s from a movie I have to pop in on occasion, and can’t resist watching if it’s on television.

Good luck.

You are fart factory, Slug-slimed, sack-of-rat-guts-in-cat-vomit, cheesy, scab-picked, pimple-squeezing finger bandage. A week old maggot burger with everything on it and flies on the side!

Ok, quick, what movie! Send your guesses here.

Have a .ly domain? Watch out.

Watch out! It's a blog fly!Ben Metcalfe: “The domain was seized by the Libyan domain registry for reasons which seemed to be kept obscure until we escalated the issue. We eventually discovered that the domain has been seized because the content of our website, in their opinion, fell outside of Libyan Islamic/Sharia Law.”

During the .ly land rush I recall folks warning this could happen. Now it has happened. I feel sorry for anyone using .ly, especially folks like bit.ly. Can you imagine if they get their domain got revoked?

The internets could break at any moment.

If you can’t be ’em, sue ’em

AHHHHHH!Wired: “On Friday, Microsoft joined the ring, with a suit leveled at Motorola’s Android-based smart phones, filed in the International Trade Commission and the federal court in the Western District of Washington. The suit charges Motorola with infringing on its patents related to “synchronizing email, calendars and contacts, scheduling meetings, and notifying applications of changes in signal strength and battery power.” (See the statement from Microsoft’s in-house IP lawyer Horacio Gutierrez below.)”

Now, we wait

RxCalc 1.2 IconI’ve been sitting on a new release of RxCalc for a while now. Jerry and I took a look at the code about a month ago and fixed up a couple of minor issues. For the first time we opened the door to beta testing. RxCalc is small but it’s getting to the point that it’s nice to have more eyes on it. We were able to enlist a great Pharmacist by the name of Robert Martin to help us verify our numbers were correct. Between Robert and Jerry we have over 30-years of heavy Pharmacokinetics experience. We’re very thankful to have Robert’s experience. He definitely helped make RxCalc 1.2 the best release ever.

Bob Inglis is right

NYDailyNews.com: “Why do I have to see Democrats as my enemies? I’ve got Al Qaeda. I’ve got the Taliban. I’ve got enough enemies. I’m supposed to call this President despicable? The people who are despicable are the ones who constantly mislead the public in the interest of selling books. Or themselves. And always cloaking themselves in patriotism. Shame on them.”

A change in coding style

I’m a verbose guy when it comes to code. The compiler doesn’t care and it’s easier for me to read later on down the road. I’ve changed my style over the past few months, it started at Pelco because I was confusing folks with a particular syntax. I must admit, it even confused me on occasion.

When checking pointers I used to do this.

if (NULL != ptr)

That was confusing. I’ve since switched my tune back to a tried and true method of removing the NULL !=, like this

if (ptr)

Much easier for most to understand. I do, however, still check for explicit FALSE and NULL as the case may be, because I believe it to be a bit more clear. Here’s what that looks like.

if (NULL == ptr)

or

if (FALSE == value)

There is a statement some don’t like, that I love, and probably won’t switch away from. The ternary operator.

something = (value) ? value1 : value2;

My brain just likes it.
